First post from Singapore!! :)

Wow it's been more than a month since I left NZ! Time really flies when you're not noticing.

Erm, should I talk about my job?? Let's just say despite a great manager and (some) friendly colleagues, I am glad that I am just working there temporarily and not on a long-term contract. After all, I don't want to get any backlash from anything I might say. Google is one of the best inventions since sliced bread, but it also archives everything. So better be safe than sorry.

Singapore is different from what I remembered, despite having just travelled there last July. Do you remember our trip, John? Singapore seemed so friendly and well-organised and all the citizens seem to be on their best behaviour. Or maybe I was looking at our trip with rose-coloured glasses.

I remembered the last time we were in Singapore, everyone moved towards the centre when taking the MRT to create more space for others. People also allow alighting passengers to exit the train before walking in. People were polite, friendly, smiling.

But the Singapore I live in is a whole different story. People all crowds towards the door of the train, as if it is some prime spot with some majorly awesome feng shui associated with it. When passengers are trying to alight, it is as if people are disallowing them from doing so, as they simply push in in one big throng, so those who are trying to get out risk being stuck. Hmm, maybe that's why people squeeze around the door to make sure they can exit at the stop they desire. Also, some people over here actually cut queues, whether it's exiting the MRT station, getting onto the escalator, or buying food at the foodcourt. And they do it so unabashedly too! I was wearing open-toed sandals to work on Monday, and a man tried to cut in front of me when I was getting onto the escalator. As a result, the (very sharp!) heel of the man's left shoe cut into my skin. Who knew shoes could be a weapon??

Maybe I'm just viewing our Msia/Singapore trip last year in a better view because I treasure the trip so much. It was fun, exciting, even nerve-wrecking to be travelling, just John and I, in a (relatively) foreign land. To see each other everyday, to sleep and wake up next to each other, is a totally different and refreshing feeling. Although during that trip, we had times when we were annoyed and frustrated at each other, we also had times when we really, truly, absolutely enjoyed ourselves. I kept telling myself, so this is what love feels like.

It's true. Love isn't that nervous feeling at the pit of your stomach, or that heartbeat that keeps on increasing and increasing, or that flush of endorphins pumping into your veins. Love is going to sleep holding hands. Love is experiencing new things together with a smile on your face. Love is feeling happy for no reason, just because you're next to each other.

Love is also thinking of each other while being physically apart. Love is remaining unfaltered even when obstacles come along and threaten to tear you down. Love is understanding, patient, loyal. Love is contented, even when waves of discontent wash over you.

Love is when I think of you.
